For Discussion: Twitter!!!

Did you know that Twitter didn't have a revenue model up until recently when it launched "Promoted Tweets"? And did you know that Twitter still doesn't have a business model?

  1. For my first perception about Twitter is that another alike form like Facbook that to allow users post or share their current feeling to friends as well as family. The difference between Facbook and Twitter is that Twitter only for posting users feelings unlike Facebook allows company to advertise by form a group to allow users who is interested to join the group and have latest news about the company goods and services. Also, social games become other criteria that users prefer Facebook rather than Twitter.

Surprise that in April 2010, Twitter start plans on make money with the ads. As what I founded that, one of the director of Twitter Dick Costolo said that users would not see ads they did not find useful as he confidence that all the ads will be useful for all users, also they will filter the ads as well (Miller, 2010).

Also surprise that Twitter does not have a business model yet. For my research through internet, I found that the reason why Twitter doesn’t form any business model as the company believe that let other people build little applications that make it more useful rather than trying to do everything itself. (Lyons, 2010) Also, more than 70,000 have been created so far (This is quite a large number for me).

I believe that Facebook will feel the ‘threat’ of Twitter arise and try to develop new way to compete it. For our (as users) will be benefited by those competitive ‘threats’.

  2. Thanks for your input Michael. It was strange that Facebook and Twitter did not have a clear business model to make profit. However, since last year, Facebook has adopted new strategies and they actually made some profit. In my opinion, Facebook and Twitter will probably take advantages of what Google has been doing with advertisiment to make profit. Both of the big players will try to adapt to Google profitability model on some level as Google has been very successful with their advertisement handling.
